On a tbd date in spring 2021, the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company (ESDC) will travel north from its base in Albany to Warren County to perform at Tannery Pond Community Center in North Creek. DanceForce funds will be utilized to support the fee for this performance in rural Warren County.

The performance will feature live music accompaniment and interludes by the Capital Trio and cellist Ashley Bathgate.

“The heart and soul of my work has always stemmed from collaborations. The opportunity to have musicians play live with our company is one that we never, ever take for granted.” ~ Ellen Sinopoli

Two premiere works by the dancers will be accompanied by Bathgate who will also perform a solo composition as an interlude between dance pieces. Bathgate was a member of the acclaimed sextet Bang on a Can All-Stars for ten years. She is also a member of the chamber music group HOWL, TwoSense with pianist Lisa Moore and Bonjour, a low-strung, percussive quintet.

In 2018, ESDC premiered a work to two selections from William Matthews’ A BOOK OF HOURS. Since then, the dance has been expanded to incorporate more of Matthews’s compositions and the Capital Trio will play live for this performance. The trio will also perform a Hadyn work as an interlude between dance pieces.

Tannery Pond is primarily a presenter of music concerts. While the venue has tried presenting dance in the past, their success in attracting an audience has been minimal. This performance of dance featuring live musicians is an attempt to try to help broaden the interest of their audience to include dance by pairing it with the art form to which they are most accustomed to attending.

In light of the current global health crisis, small venues like Tannery Pond are especially vulnerable. The DanceForce support is a critical component in making possible the visit by the dance company and musicians to Tannery Pond. Being able to present this performance will hopefully assist the venue in its audience engagement initiatives.
