The Capital Region Dance Season Calendar is a fixture in the upper Hudson region where four capital region counties (Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady) are the home of 10 dance presenters who bring dance to variable populations. The calendar is a two sided, four color, artfully designed promotional item that is produced and sent to a comprehensive mailing list of dance enthusiasts. The mailing list is culled from several dance presenters and provides the public with the only single page listing of regional dance events. Calendars are also sent first class to members of a local membership organization – the Dance Alliance. Calendars are tabled at local art centers. The document is provided to local organizations that post dance activities to the public. Some venues have free entry for children. Many of the presenters bring dance artists into the community for outreach activities. Dance artists from all approaches to dance are mentioned on the calendar, from highly experimental to traditional. The calendar lists events for touring companies and local companies in concert. The act of gathering and preparing the calendar creates a common thread in the dance community.
