The project, “El Ritmo,” explored the many rhythms of Latin dance, from the complex rhythmic sounds of Flamencoโs castanets and footwork to the drumming rhythms underlying the Merengue, Cha cha, Kompa, Bachata, Mambo, Rumba, Habanera/Tango, and Salsa. This initiative sought the origins of these rhythms in the music and dance of India, and that of north and west Africa.
The project encompassed 4 concerts/presentations for various Suffolk communities, accompanied by lecture/demonstration/classes focusing on the rhythms of different Latin Dance styles.
