Three former Trisha Brown Dance Company members — Irene Hultman, Mariah Maloney, and Vicky Shick — taught and coached The College at Brockport dancers during the Fall 2017 semester. Mariah Maloney, full time member of the Brockport faculty, mounted and coached Trisha Brown’s iconic Set and Reset/Reset throughout the semester to a group of 23 dancers in preparation for three fully produced public performances, two in Brockport and one in Rochester, November 16, 17, 18, 2017.

From September 4 through 7 Irene Hultman taught a total of nine classes and gave two public lectures about Trisha Brown’s work. September 24-27 Vicky Shick taught ten classes, and also coached the dancers. Both guests taught repertory and performance style to all dance majors and coached the 23 dancers working with Mariah Maloney to perform Trisha Brown’s Set and Reset/Reset. The opportunity to work with three early company members was invaluable to the two casts of eight and their seven understudies and everyone in the department participated in classes and/or lectures that gave them a deeper understanding of the work that was performed in DANSCORE near the end of the semester. New costumes and video were created based on the originals and sheer wings (thanks to Princeton University) were hung on an otherwise totally bare stage. Both casts were breathtaking in their performances and Mariah Maloney can’t be thanked enough for her tireless commitment to authenticity and respect for Trisha Brown’s important legacy.
