Urban Bush Women (co-artistic directors Chanon Judson and Samantha Speis) will teach classes preceding two full performances in SUNY Brockport’s Hartwell Hall on Friday and Saturday evenings September 9 and 10, 2022. Audience is anticipated to include those traveling from Alfred University, University of Rochester and other regional institutions. By combining resources, the Western New York region has access to a major company that is otherwise out of reach financially. The program will be either UBW’s 25th Anniversary: Legacy+Lineage+Liberation or Hair & Other Stories, to be determined soon after discussions about which performance space is preferred.

This project is a follow-up to the 2021-22 teaching project with master dance teachers from Guinea West Africa, Youssouf Koumbassa and Mouminatou Camara. It connects the legacy and influences of dance and music of the African Diaspora with contemporary concert choreography.
