The Lake Placid Center for the Arts (LPCA) was honored to welcome the internationally acclaimed MOMIX Dance Company back to its stage on August 2, 2025, marking the company’s first return to Lake Placid since before the pandemic. Originally scheduled for summer 2020, the engagement was postponed due to COVID-19, making this performance especially meaningful as an opportunity to reconnect North Country audiences with one of the most celebrated names in contemporary dance.

Led by visionary artistic director Moses Pendleton, MOMIX has captivated audiences worldwide with its breathtaking fusion of athleticism, illusion, and artistry. Their return to Lake Placid featured Viva MOMIX, a “best of” program that highlighted audience favorites from across the company’s repertoire, blending surreal imagery, inventive choreography, and extraordinary physicality into a single evening of unforgettable performance.

The project’s primary goal was to reconnect Lake Placid–area audiences with MOMIX, building on the company’s history of prior appearances at LPCA while introducing their work to new community members. By presenting MOMIX, LPCA continued its long-standing mission of bringing world-class dance to the Adirondack region and fostering access to the arts for both seasoned dance enthusiasts and first-time attendees.

The mainstage performance took place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, in the LPCA theater, drawing an audience of approximately 263 attendees. Following the show, MOMIX dancers engaged the audience in a question-and-answer session, offering insights into their creative process and deepening the connection between artists and community. This post-performance dialogue provided an invaluable opportunity for audiences to learn directly from the performers, bridging the gap between artist and observer.

In addition to the mainstage event, MOMIX’s visit included community engagement activities designed to inspire and educate. These outreach offerings—such as a movement-based workshop for local dancers and athletes—invited participants to experience the company’s unique approach to physicality and storytelling, while reflecting the Olympic heritage and athletic spirit that define the Lake Placid region.

This project reflects LPCA’s ongoing commitment to presenting innovative, world-class performances while building meaningful connections between artists and audiences. MOMIX’s return underscored the importance of continuity and renewal in the arts, allowing the Lake Placid community to re-engage with a company that has been a vital part of LPCA’s history and to experience once again the transformative power of live performance.
